    – Deadlift
    – Squat (Front or Back)
    – Bench Press
    – Overhead Press.

    I prefer the front squat over the back squat not only in function but it’s more comfortable on my back. Back squats put pressure on my back in a way that is distracting for the squat. My mind is in the pain rather than working my quads.

    Yo Elliot: recently I got a gastric bypass. So starting with strength training exercises. So these 4 would be good to start with? I am starting from scratch. Have a barbell and some weights and a bench. Getting some dumbbells as well. And a pull-up bar is also coming my way. Just one question about the squats. Do you recommend to start doing from the beginning the squats with the barbell? Even if it is without weights. Just to already get used to work on a good positioning of my body? Got some more simple tips for a fresh beginner? Really like your videos they are inspiring and packed with loads of wisdom, knowledge and experience. Hope I can learn from them.

    not the front squat. the back squat. it works 17 different muscle groups, and is the king of all weighted exercises. everything else you said is correct. but the barbell squat and deadlift are very technical lifts. the only lifts more complicated are the oly lifts.

    I've been working out regularly for 9 months (4x a week) following a lot of Jeff Cavalier's workouts but can only do 3 chin ups. Is this normal?

    I’ve been following this idea of workout for a year, I’ve developed great strength but felt my shoulders weaker than the other muscle groups, I would add military press and it’d be perfect
